Energy Sector EDI Solutions
DataTrans provides EDI and e-Commerce solutions and support for the energy sector.
We are committed to delivering secure, reliable and comprehensive data communications and transaction processing
services designed to meet energy companies specific needs.
Our experience in the energy sector includes compliance with all versions of NAESB (formally known as GISB)
and other data communications standards.
The GISB EDM standard was initially
developed by the Gas Industry Standards Board in 1996 to provide secure Internet transport of EDI. NAESB (North
American Energy Standards Board) serves as an industry forum for the development and promotion
of standards relating to the sale of natural gas and electricity. NAESB/GISB standards require that all
transaction data be exchanged in a standardized format
(ANSI X12). These standards also specify the Internet communication protocol used to exchange the files electronically - including
Secure HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) which allows entities to securely and reliably transmit and receive
EDI and
XML.
DataTrans Tip:
X12 (also known as ANSI ASC X12) is the official designation of the U.S. national standards body for the
development and maintenance of EDI standards.
DataTrans Tip:
HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) - is a communications protocol used to transfer information on
intranets and the World Wide Web, or a request/response protocol between a client and a server.
DataTrans Tip:
XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a flexible way to create common information formats and share
both the format and the data on the Web in a consistent way.
DataTrans provides solutions for companies required to implement NAESB/GISB EDM for the reliable, secure exchange of
transactions over the Internet between gas and electric utility trading partners.
The benefits of selecting DataTrans Solutions as your 3rd-Party EDI Provider include:

WebEDI Catalog and the Exclusive Auto-Pack Feature
DataTrans WebEDI account now comes equipped with a catalog feature. The catalog can be used to input inventory information,
including the UPC number, description, price and packing information. Inventory items can be uploaded from a .csv spreadsheet,
entered indivdually, or even imported directly from a Purchase Order. Once the items are in the catalog, they can be used
to generate inventory or sales reports. They can also be used to automatically configure
packing information on the Advance Ship Notice by using the Auto-Pack feature. Auto-Pack uses the packing information
from your catalog and breaks down the quantity requested on the Purchase Order to determing how many pallets and cartons are
required to ship an order. This information is then transferred to the packing information segment in the Advance Ship Notice. It also
generates the UCC-128 Shipping Labels required for the order. Using the Auto-Pack feature saves your company time, money and helps
to avoid costly shipping errors.

Hosted EDI Solution + WebEDI = Hybrid Solution
|
DataTrans can provide a combination of solutions that can address almost any business situation. An example
of this is when integrated EDI is required to tie purchase orders and invoices into an internal system. However,
another solution is required for the warehouse to also receive the purchase order and be able to generate the ASN
(advance ship notice.) DataTrans offers its customers Hosted EDI to provide the necessary integration and WebEDI
as the EDI management tool for the warehouse to manage the shipping process. This Hybrid Solution allows you
to have one cohesive solution with a web-based interface.

Trading Partner Connection
|
We have hundreds of Trading Partners in our network - from AAFES to
Zellers and many in between. Although we can establish a communication channel to any Trading Partner, setting up EDI
with an in-network Partner often results in reduced implementation costs and a streamlined move to production because
we already know their EDI requirements and are able to use existing communication channels. Communicating with
Trading Partners is accomplished by a variety of methods. Some of the methods we currently use are:
- Value Added Network (VAN), which acts as an intermediary between business partners and is responsible for routing, storing and
delivering EDI messages.
- We also send data directly to the Trading Partner through an AS2 connection. This secure method of transmitting
sensitive EDI data enables sending and receiving parties to avoid VAN costs.
