EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is a standard format for exchanging business data.
An EDI message contains a string of data elements, each of which represents a singular
fact, such as a price or product model number. The entire string is called a data
segment. One or more data segments framed by a header and trailer form a transaction
set, which is the EDI unit of transmission. A transaction set often consists of what
would usually be contained in a typical business document or form. The parties who
exchange EDI transmissions are referred to as trading partners.

proprietary data formats for importing and exporting EDI data are called IDocs. IDocs are lengthy and
complicated data files, making them tedious and time consuming to model. The IDoc Modeler
dynamically retrieves IDoc layouts from your SAP R/3 server and models them in Softshare Delta.
- Oracle Bridge - Because Oracle Interface Files are designed as reports, are extremely
large, and cross reference one another, it can take weeks to model all the necessary Oracle
files for an EDI-Oracle integration solution. Not with the Integration Bridge for Oracle.
This component converts an Oracle Interface File or .XGD file into
a corresponding data file or XML model. The Integration Bridge for Oracle installs with four
sample maps that illustrate two common EDI business scenarios. Although you'll need to customize
these maps to meet your business' unique requirements, they provide an excellent starting point
for mapping to and from Oracle.
- Epicor Vantage Bridge - The Translation Bridge for Epicor Vantage provides you with a
significant advantage when integrating the EDI data you exchange with your trading partners
into your ERP database. Not only does this component come with models that accurately
represent Epicor's intermediary data files, it also comes with a variety of maps that demonstrate
how to write EDI data to and from these files. These pre-defined models and maps will save you time
setting up an EDI integration solution with Epicor Vantage.
Remote Management Service
DataTrans also provides our customers with the ability to purchase the EDI software and contract
DataTrans to remotely manage the EDI environment. This gives the flexibility of having the software
on-site and the benefits of having a professional EDI team manage the EDI environment. Thus, you can
implement a turn-key EDI environment and basically “lease “ EDI personnel from DataTrans. This
eliminates the need for internal EDI staff and the training. It also gives you the depth in personnel
necessary to have a reliable EDI environment.
Hybrid Solutions
There are times when just one solution is not adequate to address a particular business situation.
DataTrans is unique in that we provide a mix of solutions that can address any business situation.
A classic example of this is when integrated EDI is required to tie purchase orders and invoices
into an internal system. However, another solution is required for the warehouse to also receive
the purchase order to be able to generate the
ASN (advance ship notice.)

ASN (Advance Ship Notice) is an EDI formatted electronic notification of pending deliveries.
The goal of the ASN is to provide information to the destination's receiving operations well
in advance of delivery.
In this case, DataTrans offers its customers Hosted EDI to provide the necessary integration and WebEDI
as the EDI management tool for the warehouse to manage the shipping process. This is just one example
